One hope that I have when I think about working with
children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is that I can take what
I have learned through this course and my own personal experiences to make
these families feel comfortable, accepted, valued and appreciated for exactly
who they are. I also hope that I am able to positively influence families in a
manner in which they are also able to learn the importance of diversity.
One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field
related to issues of diversity, equity, and social justice is that we continue
to create innovative and creative programs that will allow individuals to
continue to advocate for children and their families and their acceptance for
their unique family make up and their definition of family.
I would like to thank everyone for sharing his or her
personal stories during the past 8 weeks. I have truly enjoyed reading all of
your post/discussions and learning more about you and your families! I think
this has been one of the most personal and rewarding courses I have taken since
I started with the Masters program. I wish all of you the best of luck!

Tasha,
ReplyDeleteI truly believe that you have and will continue to positively impact the lives of the families you work with! What a great advocate you are being! I like your goal on continuing to be an advocate. It is something we should all strive to do! Best of luck in your future classes and I look forward to working alongside you again if given the chance.
Tasha, I agree. Advocating for children and families is what we love to do. It's how we, as early childhood professionals, make the world a better place. Any programs, paradigms, and materials that help this mission along are definitely worth working toward.
ReplyDeleteTasha - Thanks so much for sharing your story with the class. Good luck to you in all your professional endeavors.
