One hope that I have when I think about working with children and families who come from diverse backgrounds is that they never feel isolated, alone, or ashamed of who they truly are and where they come from. I would hope that I can provide a safe, trusting environment that is filled with acceptance, tolerance, respect and first and foremost love. I would hope that families and children alike would feel welcomed and appreciated for who they are. I would hope that every individual would understand the significant impact they make on the world by simply being who they are.
One goal I would like to set for the early childhood field related to issues of diversity, equity and social justice to mandate Diversity curriculums beginning in Pre-K programs which will follow the child throughout his/her school years, just as English, Science, Math and Social Studies are embedded into the minds of children, Diversity should be as well.
Tasha,
ReplyDeleteI like your goals for education in diversity. I will definitely do my part. If every person that takes this class does their part, the world will be a better place. We can fix diversity issues one person at a time.
Good luck with your next class! Best of Luck!

ReplyDeleteI have to support what everyone else said your goals are nicely articulated. In addition they support what every early childhood environment needs. I too gained a greater perception of our classmates from sharing. Best of luck to you in your future endeavors. Happy learning.

Tasha,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed reading your hopes for children and families from diverse backgrounds. I don't know that any of us would disagree with wanting our children to always feel safe, secure, and connected. I think your goal for the EC field is an excellent choice that would promote awareness and understanding of divesity, equity, and social justice issues. Good luck in your future courses! I look forward to working with you again. - Maggie
